Just a little bit about me

Welcome, everyone! I'm Dani, a Spanish Neuroscience PhD currently working as a Postdoctoral Researcher at University of Edinburgh!
I study molecular mechanisms of small vessel disease and its links to dementia, but I am passionate about a wide range of fields in science, from molecular biochemistry to linguistics.
I am also very interested in science communication and activism in STEAM fields, intending to promote better and more diverse science.

My educational Background

What I’ve Learnt

Curriculum vitae: Education

October 2019 - February 2023

Neuroscience PhD - Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM), CBMSO.

Development of a research project at the molecular neuropathology Department at Centro de Biología Molecular Severo Ochoa, in Madrid.

Attendance and participation on several educational activities as part of my doctoral training.

I was awarded the maximum grade achievable, Outstanding summa Cum Laude.

September 2017 - September 2019

MSc Neuroscience - Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM)

Educational training on general subjects in Neuroscience, perfect to enhance my Pharmacy MSc and offer me a solid background for a Neuroscience PhD. It also included more specific, in-depth subjects dealing with Neuroscience techniques, ageing or neurodegeneration.

I obtained a final average score of 8,69/10 and my Master's thesis on the function of new, truncated Tau isoforms was awarded a distinction with honours, the highest grade possible.

September 2012 - July 2017

MSc Pharmacy - Universidad de Alcalá (UAH)

Multidisciplinary training in a wide range of subject, encompassing Biology, Chemistry, Biophysics, Clinical physiopathology, Lab diagnostic techniques and Spanish Health legislation, among others. I earned a 8,03/10 final average score, with Distinctions in several of these subjects.

This enriching formation culminated on a Hospital internship, which I developed at Hospital Universitario Gregorio Marañón, in Madrid. I carried out a policy-improvement project on the hospital's Emergency Room, dedicated to ferropenic anaemia patients, which was awarded the Prize for the best Pharmaceutical Care Work of my promotion.

Check out the rest of my formative activities below!

Additional training

Going the extra mile

February 2022 - March 2022

Policies for equality and non-discrimination in public institutions

Interdisciplinary training on the different aspects that need to be taken into account regarding equality of treatment and non-discrimination for any reason, with a special focus on the workplace.

October 2017  - January 2022   |   CBMSO

Advanced trainings on qPCR, confocal microscopy and cell culture

Specific trainings on the fundamental basis of different techniques and the use of specific material and equipment to implement them successfully.

April 2021   |   UAM

Research and gender:
sources and methodology.

Course from the doctoral school of UAM dealing with gender bias in different research fields and how to ensure our scientific production do not contribute to that bias by improving our methodological approaches.

January 2019 - February 2019   |   UAM

Training on animal utilisation for experimental purposes

Initial certification for the following functions on rodents and lagomorphs:
a) Handling of animals
b) Euthanising animals
c) Carrying out procedures on animals.
d) Designing projects and experiments on animals.

July 2018   |   Standford University via Coursera

Writing in the Sciences

The course approaches the main characteristics of scientific writing and teaches more effective writing in these disciplines, both in specialised and more general registers.

February 2020 - Present   |   UNED
